Male Eyelid Surgery

The eyelids are one of the first facial features to give away your age. Even men are susceptible to droopy upper eyelids or puffy lower eyelids. Sometimes, being rested and healthy is not enough to give your eyes that youthful sparkle. Our patients choose eyelid surgery for pleasing improvements that revive their entire eye area.

When to Consider Male Eyelid Surgery

  • If the skin under your eyes has begun to droop and appear puffy
  • If your upper eyelids have begun to sag
  • If you no longer feel confidence with your facial appearance
  • If your friends ask why you look tired or angry

Male Eyelid Surgery Consultation

At The Graivier Center, we value our personal relationships with our patients. Each patient is treated as an individual, and as such, is given a personal consultation prior to any treatment. Dr. Graivier and his staff will meet with you to help you make decisions regarding which procedure(s) or treatment(s) will result in achieving your aesthetic goals. The consultation will conclude with a discussion about the desired treatment, your expectations, the benefits and risks associated with the treatment and post-treatment recovery.

Eyelid Surgery Complementary Procedures

It is common practice for patients undergoing eyelid surgery to combine several procedures at once that will offer complementary or enhanced results. At The Graivier Center, we will take time to discuss all the risks and benefits of each surgery, whether you choose a single procedure or multiple.

Many men choose to refresh their facial appearance by also considering one or more of the following procedures:

  • The addition of Botox to reduce wrinkles and add elevation to the eyebrow
  • Rhinoplasty
  • Liposuction of the neck to achieve a more youthful appearance

Eyelid Surgery Procedure

Eyelid surgery for men is a procedure in which excess skin and fat are removed from the upper and lower eyelids. This can correct drooping upper eyelids and remove puffy bags from below the eyes.

At The Graivier Center, your procedure will be customized to meet your desired outcomes. For most men, a local anesthetic will be used and the incision will be within the natural crease of the eyelid or just below your lower eyelashes. The excess skin and tissue will be gently removed and the area re-contoured.

Eyelid Surgery Recovery

During your eyelid surgery recovery, lubricating ointment and cold compresses may be applied, and in some cases, your eyes may be loosely covered with gauze after the procedure is completed. Initial healing may include some swelling, bruising, irritation or dry eyes, and discomfort that can be controlled with medication, cold compresses and ointment.

Irritation at the incision sites is also possible. You must practice diligent sun protection and use darkly tinted sunglasses until the healing process is fully complete.

Any stitches (other than self-absorbing) will be removed after about one week. Most men return to normal activities seven to 10 days post surgery.

You will be given specific instructions from The Graivier Center that may include:

  • How to care for the surgical site and drains, if applicable
  • Medications to apply or take orally to aid in healing and the progression of your recovery
  • Specific concerns to look for at the surgical site or in your general health
  • Post-op follow-up appointment information
