Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Alpharetta, GA

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a painless procedure that exposes your body to high levels of oxygen in an environment with increased pressure, thus allowing greater absorption of oxygen throughout your body’s tissues. This medical treatment enhances the body’s natural healing process by inhalation of 100-percent oxygen in a total body chamber.

Benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy include enhanced and accelerated healing from surgery, sports or other injuries, prevention of damaged tissue, and reduction of the effects of environmental toxins.

Issues You Can Treat With Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment

Hyperbaric oxygen treatment can be used to treat a range of serious issues including decompression sickness, air bubbles in your blood, or wounds from radiation or diabetes. This treatment can also help with the following issues:

  • Iron deficiency
  • Abscesses in your brain tissue
  • Burns
  • Carbon dioxide exposure
  • Crushing injuries
  • Tissue infections such as gangrene
  • Injuries from radiation

However, this treatment doesn’t just have to be reserved for serious issues. You can also use it to promote healing or wellness at any time.

While there currently aren’t a lot of scientific studies to back up how hyperbaric oxygen treatment helps the following issues, patients report that they feel relief when using this treatment for some of the following issues:

  • AIDS/HIV or other conditions that compromise your immune system
  • Allergies
  • Arthritis and joint pain
  • Cerebral palsy, bell’s palsy, and other conditions that include permanent or temporary paralysis
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Heart disease
  • Migraines
  • Sports injuries

The Process

At The Graivier Center, we have an individual chamber that you walk in to and it is pressurized. There is plenty of space to lie down or sit up so that you are comfortable.

If you feel pressure in your ears during the process, just swallow or yawn to relieve it. Again, this is exactly what you feel when you drive up a mountain or ride in an airplane. Then, you simply relax and soak up oxygen. After the procedure, you can resume activities as normal, but you may want to grab a bite to eat first. Many people report that they feel extra hungry after these procedures.

Risks of Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment

With hyperbaric oxygen treatment, you’re only getting exposed to oxygen. You can’t have too much oxygen, and as a result, there are no risks associated with the oxygen. However, although complications are extremely rare, there are some risks from the pressure. These are similar to the risks you face when you’re in a pressurized airplane cabin, and they include middle ear injuries, eardrum rupture, and lung collapse. But again, keep in mind, those risks are extremely rare.

Additionally, oxygen is one of the three elements you need to start a fire. The other two are fuel and an ignition source. To be on the safe side during the procedure, you need to make sure that you don’t bring any fuel sources into the hyperbaric chamber. This includes all petroleum-based makeup and jewelry. For instance, skin creams with paraffin wax and mineral oil are petroleum-based. So, it’s important to make sure your skin is clean when you do the treatment.
