Many clients come to us because they want their skin tightened. At the Graivier Center, we have several non-surgical and minimally invasive options to target this telltale sign of aging. These procedures include tightening loose skin around the jowl and neck areas, eliminating sagginess around the eyes, and dealing with droopy brow lines and fine lines.
Skin tightening procedures can also be directed at the abdomen, hips, arms, knees, thighs, décolleté, face, neck, and eyes. If you’re thinking about skin tightening, here’s a look at why you may need skin tightening and some of the procedures we offer in our office.
Why Skin Becomes Loose
Part of the aging process is the loss of skin elasticity, and that causes loose skin. As people get older, their bodies make less elastin. That is the elastic tissue that allows skin to stretch and bounce back into place. As that element decreases, skin begins to hang loosely.
At the same time, collagen levels also decrease as your body gets older. Collagen is a protein found in your skin, muscles, and various other parts of your body. It strengthens your skin and promotes elasticity. As you lose this element, your skin also starts to sag and wrinkle.
This effect can be exacerbated by several issues including weight gain, weight loss, and pregnancy. Some people also experience loose skin after having certain plastic surgeries, and others have reduced levels of collagen due to smoking, sun exposure, or other environmental or lifestyle factors. Luckily, regardless of why your skin is sagging, there are all kinds of options to help with this issue.
Exilis and Exilis Elite
Exilis and Exilis Elite is focused radiofrequency waves directed at the deeper layers of the skin as well as the subcutaneous fat under the skin. The Exilis and Exilis Elite procedure promotes skin tightening via collagen synthesis and reshaping of targeted fat deposits. Fat shrinkage with Exilis occurs via absorption of heat in the fatty tissue (up to 3 cm).
Approximately two to four treatments are recommended, usually three weeks apart. There is no downtime associated with these procedures.
ThermiTight procedures are done for skin tightening of the neck, jowls, lower face, arms, elbows, and knees. This procedure only requires local anesthesia to be used, as a small puncture is made in the areas to be treated. However, the puncture is so small that no sutures are necessary. During ThermiTight, a probe is inserted and the temperature is raised to 55 to 60 degrees Celsius. This causes skin tightening, and fat can be “melted” as well. Finally, to complete the process, compression garments are applied for the first two days and potentially longer in some cases.
