Breast augmentation is for women whose breasts have fully developed. It can be performed on women either before or after having children. It is particularly effective for women who have lost fullness in their breasts after childbearing as well as women who simply desire larger breasts with better definition.

Breast Augmentation Consultation

At The Graivier Center, we value our personal relationships with our patients. Each patient is treated as an individual, and as such, is given a personal consultation prior to any treatment. Dr. Graivier and his staff will meet with you to help you make decisions regarding which procedure(s) or treatment(s) will result in achieving your aesthetic goals. A breast examination will be done during your consultation. The consultation will conclude with a discussion about the desired treatment, your expectations, the benefits and risks associated with the treatment and post-treatment recovery.

As bra sizes vary and the idea of cup size is very subjective, it is beneficial to bring to your consultation photos of women with breast sizes you desire. Dr. Graivier will discuss your desired size and shape with you, and talk to you about the placement of the implant and incisions that will be used. At The Graivier Center we own a consignment of over 700 implants. We have all options available and do not have to guess and special order your implants before your surgery.

Breast Augmentation Procedure

At the time of surgery, an incision is made and a breast pocket is formed.

An incision can be made in one of several places:

Inframammary – underneath the breast
Transaxillary – near the armpit, where the arm meets the chest area
Periareolar – around the lower edge of the areola (the dark area surrounding the nipple)

Approaches may vary depending on the patient’s anatomy. Placement of the implant behind the pectoral muscle may provide a more accurate reading of mammograms, as well as prohibit problems with breastfeeding.

As one of the first Plastic Surgeons to perform the Transaxillary Endoscopic approach in 1993, Dr. Graivier has refined the technique over the years and prefers this method for patients desiring breast augmentation without a breast lift. He has refined the technique over the years and patients are very satisfied with their results.

Through the transaxillary endoscopic approach, the implant is placed through a small incision (1 to 1 1/2 inch long) in the axilla (underarm). Dr. Graivier believes it is imperative to use an endoscope to do a safe, precise dissection with minimal blood loss to release the lower portion of the muscle. Placement of any size implant, Saline or Gel, is possible with this approach. The location of the incision placed in the underarm region leaves the breast free of any incisions. The incision fades away to be almost imperceptible.

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and can last one to two hours.

The breast implant sizers are filled to a volume most closely matching the desired outcome determined by the patient and Dr. Graivier. While asleep and safely secured and positioned, patient will be positioned upright to assess proper placement and fullness. Once the desired fullness is achieved, Dr. Graivier will remove the sizers and place the permanent implant behind the pectoral muscle. Dr. Graivier has found this technique to be the most accurate method to obtain patients’ desired breast size.

Breast Augmentation Recovery

After your breast augmentation surgery, your breasts will have Steri Strips placed over the incisions with a gauze dressing covering. A surgical compression bra will be placed on you to help minimize swelling. It is recommended that this compression garment be worn for two weeks post-surgery.

An antibiotic and pain medication will be prescribed.

You may be permitted to go home several hours after surgery. You will likely experience soreness and swelling for a few weeks.

Generally, patients return to work after one week post-surgery.
