Keloid Treatment in Alpharetta, GA

Keloids are benign, but the growth can cause the patient itchiness, irritation, tenderness, discomfort and pain. In severe cases, the keloid can become infected.

Keloids affect men and women, but tend to develop in women with darker skin tones and a hereditary history. They most often develop on the chest, back, shoulders and earlobes.

A keloid can result from an injury or surgery or can appear spontaneously as the result of a slight inflammation, such as an acne pimple, a burn or a body or ear piercing.

A keloid grows beyond the original wound site, which distinguishes it from a hypertrophic scar. Keloids are typically itchy, burning, elevated, and can cause significant distortion. They are unsightly and can continue to grow. Keloids have been traditionally very resistant to surgical and injection therapy.

An overproduction of collagen is the culprit behind the appearance of keloids.

Removal of Keloids

Unlike other treatments, cryotherapy treats the keloid from the inside out, thereby eradicating the tissue in its entirety and greatly reducing the likelihood of recurrence.

The CryoShape™ probe effectively treats keloids via direct treatment of the deep scar material as well as an increased freezing area along the entire scar. The CryoShape™ procedure can be done under local anesthetic alone (if treating smaller areas) but for larger areas, general anesthesia may be necessary. One session is usually sufficient, but more treatments may be necessary.

The treated keloids usually turn black and fall off, or just shrink over the first month after CryoShape™ therapy. Symptoms such as itching, burning, and pain are always improved.

The CryoShape™ is a safe and effective treatment for keloids. Dr. Graivier is the only surgeon in Georgia using this technology at this time
